Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated South Africa’s Kevin Anderson 6/2; 6/2; 7/6 (3) to win his 13th Grand Slam title.
Anderson won the toss and elected to serve, but lost the set 6-2. Anderson won the first point and led 30-15 but couldn’t hold on and evetually lost the opening game. Djokovic made easy work of the second game to make it 2-0. Although Anderson won the third game, he couldn’t hold his serve and eventually lost the set 6-2 in a mere 29 minutes.
People who were expecting a classic like the quarter-final between Djokovic and Nadal were soon surprised as Djokovic raced through the game and showed why he has won 12 Grand Slams previous to the game.
Anderson also started the second set serving, and raced to a 30-0 lead, which was soon cancelled after a double-error gave the Serb a break. Although he held Dhokovic twice, the best anderson could do was to take Djokovic to deuce which the 12th time slam winner eventually saw off to take the set 6-2 again.
The third set was longer as Anderson took advantage of his serve, but the damage done in the first two sets meant Djokovic had the mental advantage and was on a roll. The south African did all he could but lost the last set 7-6.
The win meant Djokovic has now won 13th Grand Slam in total.
