The Deputy Editor of Daily Trust, Danjuma Lawan Adamu, was reportedly detained in Niger Republic on Saturday. Danjuma Lawan, who was in Niger to investigate the route used by Africans in their migration to Europe has been detained in Agadez.
He is being detained on allegations that his travel documents were incomplete. The management of the Daily Trust demanded his immediate release while insisting that he had complete travel documents.
According to a statement by Daily Trust’s Executive Director/Editor-in-Chief Malam Mannir Dan Ali “As an experienced cross border reporter, Lawan Danjuma sought and got the relevant documentation from the Kano Consulate office of the Nigerien embassy after stating his mission to Agadez. It was the same documentation that he used at different check points including the Nigeria/Niger border post at Kongolom, Katsina state and was only stopped and arrested on reaching Agadez,”
