The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the election of Mr Kayode Fayemi as Governor of Ekiti State.
The three-man panel of judges of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Stephen Adah delivered the judgement on Thursday. The court dismissed the appeal filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Olusola Eleka and the PDP for lacking in merit.
The court ruled all 7 issues raised by the PDP in favour of the respondents, who are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Fayemi.
INEC had declared Fayemi of the APC as the winner of the Governorship election in the state after polling 197,459 votes to defeat the PDP’s candidate who managed 178,121.
Mr Eleka then approached the Ekiti state election tribunal which ruled in favour of the respondent. Still not satisfied, Mr Eleka and his party took the case to the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
