Judge Steven O’Neill of Montgomery County Court of Common has sentenced comedian, Bill Cosby to three to 10 years imprisonment for sexual assault.
Cosby was found guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault- drugging and sexually molesting – Andrea Constand in April 2004. The comedian would be listed in the sexual offenders register and must undergo counselling for the rest of his life.
“This was a serious crime, Mr. Cosby, this has all circled back to you. The day has come, the time has come,” Judge O’Neill said during the sentence hearing.
Prosecutor counsel, Kevin Steele asked Judge O’Neill on Monday to sentence Cosby to five to 10 years in state prison for the 2004 sexual assault of Constand, saying he had shown “no remorse” for his actions.
Defense counsel, Joseph Green however pleaded for his client to be placed on house arrest, citing his advanced age and partial blindness.
“Eighty-one-year-old blind men who are not self-sufficient are not a danger, unless perhaps to themselves.”
Describing how the assault, which happened in 2004, had impacted her life, Constand said: “Bill Cosby took my beautiful, healthy young spirit and crushed it. He robbed me of my health and vitality, my open nature and my trust in myself and others.”
Cosby has been accused by 60 other women of sexual assault, but no other charges have been filed so far.
