Paul Biya, Africa’s oldest and Cameroonian President who has been in power since 1982 has won in the recently concluded election with 71.2% of the vote.
While Maurice Kamto , an opposition candidate came second with 14.2 percent.
The 85-year-old president has been ruling the French West African nation since 1982 and is the second longest-serving ruler in Africa, after Teodoro Obiang of Equatorial Guinea.
However, the opposition candidates called for a re-run of the presidential election, and described the election as fraudulent with a petition to cancel the election, but the petition was dismissed by the court.
The court’s president, Clement Atangana declared that the petitions were deemed “unjustified” by all members of the Constitutional Council “unanimously”.
