Google has bought fitness tracking firm, Fitbit, for $2.1 billion.
Fitbit is a fitness company dedicated to the wellbeing of its users. Their products include activity trackers, wireless-enabled wearable technology devices that measure data such as the number of steps walked, heart rate, quality of sleep, steps climbed, and other personal metrics involved in fitness.
Google’s senior vice president of devices and services, Rick Osterloh revealed the news in a blog post.
According to him, the acquisition of the fitness firm is an opportunity for the technology company to invest in more Wear OS as well as introduce Made by Google wearable devices into the market.

The technology executive stated that it would be working closely with Fitbit’s team and the best AI, software and hardware experts, to create more innovations that would help people.
While noting that Google is committed to aligning with Fitbit’s focus on wellness, Oseterloh promises to ensure that customers’ informations are kept safe.
“We understand this is a big responsibility and we work hard to protect your information, put you in control and give you transparency about your data. Similar to our other products, with wearables, we will be transparent about the data we collect and why. We will never sell personal information to anyone,” he said.
