Bayern Munich has earned a verbal agreement with Juventus to sign the center-back Matthijs de Ligt for a fee that could reach €80m.
The Serie A club is ensured to receive €70m and the add-ons vary in how likely they are to be accomplished.
An €80m fee would amount to Bayern’s transfer record, paid to buy Lucas Hernández from Atlético Madrid in 2019. The German champions stepped up negotiations for De Ligt after concluding a deal to sell the striker Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona for a fee that could attain €50m.
De Ligt, who had also been craved by Chelsea, joined Juventus from Ajax in 2019 and has played 117 times for the club.
The 22-year-old is poised to become the second Netherlands international to join Bayern this summer after the midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
Bayern has also bought Sadio Mané from Liverpool and the right-back Noussair Mazraoui from Ajax.
