Cesar Azpilicueta was two yards offside when he scored Chelsea’s equalizer on 84 minutes.
As if that was not enough, Antonio Rudiger escaped sending off after fouling Kenneth Zahore who was through on goal. Cardiff were naturally livid but that was not the worst of it.
A minute after normal time, Loftus Cheek headed home the winner for Maurizio Sarri’s men, leaving Cardiff in the heat of relegation.
The late rally might have saved Sarri’s job, especially after leaving Hazard and Kante on the bench.
Cardiff took the lead through Victor Camarasa who put the host in front in the first minute of the second half but a controversial offside goal from Azpilicueta and Loftus-Cheek’s header in the 90th minute rescued a crucial three points for the Blues.
While the first half lacked quality, the second half, the game came to life in the second half when the host took the lead within a minute of the restart.
Chelsea fans began to chant “we want Sarri out” and “you don’t know what you’re doing” as the home fans did the opposite and asked Sarri to stay.
