Rivers state has established a reputation as a political hotbed in the last few years and the drama the state is famous for looks to be far from over.
A closely contested governorship election led to the emergence of Nyesom Wike as Governor of Rivers. Wike, a PDP member has never hidden his disdain of former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi of the APC.
Governor Wike set up a panel of inquiry to look into certain activities of the Amaechi administration, following allegations of financial impropriety. Amaechi immediately went to court to challenge the legality of the panel of inquiry set up to investigate him.
A High court in Portharcourt ruled that the panel was legal and could indeed investigate the ex-governor. Amaechi has opted to defend himself in the media instead, snubbing an invitation by the panel.
Governor Wike’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, said “It is laughable that Amaechi would call a panel that has already been declared lawful by a court of law illegal. This means that as of when he questioned its proprietary in court, he thought the court would declare it illegal but was shamed.”
