President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his displeasure with the reported inhumane and discriminatory treatment of Nigerians and other Africans in Ukraine, where they have been refused the freedom to leave.
Garba Shehu, the presidential communications adviser, said in a statement on Sunday that all people should be treated with dignity, regardless of the color of their passports or the color of their skin.
According to his statement, he said;
“There have been unfortunate reports of Ukrainian police and security personnel refusing to allow Nigerians to board buses and trains heading towards the Ukraine-Poland border based on video evidence, first-hand reports, and those in contact with their wards and/or Nigerian consular officials.” “A Nigerian lady with her young child was videotaped being forcibly pushed to give up her seat to another person in a widely circulated video on social media.”
The presidency also stated that Nigeria would continue to support diplomatic efforts to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine while emphasizing that Nigerians and other Africans have a long tradition of learning in Ukraine, especially medicine.
