On the 23rd of January, Algeria played Senegal the team of year 2016 awarded by Glo Caf awards. All Algerians wanted was 3 points to still be a contender for the nations cup. But the group B leaders Senegal ended Algerians Dream. Senegal having qualified for the Nations cup rested their top ten and played their substitutes.
Despite a tough game from the African player of the year Riyad Mahrez and his team, Senegal’s Lions of Teranga progressed from Group B unbeaten, after goals from Papa Kouly Diop and Moussa Sow canceled out a brace from Leicester City player Islam Slimani.
Senegal progresses to the quarter final unbeaten with 6 points and Tunisia 3 points. Algeria last won the nations cup trophy in 1990.
