African Artists Foundation presents Line.Sign.Symbol. A solo exhibition of Uche Uzorka, a graduate of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, majored in painting.
Uche’s practice incorporates painting, collage, cutting and pasting, charcoal, and ink drawing in an examination of processes of urban street culture. He most notably works with strategies of cutting and pasting and large-scale collage, using refuse, signs, posters, and scraps of urban decay. His works on paper suggest an exploration more akin to daydreaming, about the inner workings of his thought process rather than about a specific conceptual message that prescribes the overall project. Uche is able to take the simplest form of artistic expression, what could be on sudden judgment compared to childhood doodling, and elevate it to the level of harmonic contemplation. Uzorka won first place in the National Art Competition in 2011 for his collaboration with artist Chike Obeagu.
