Baptis, a Cameroonian weightlifter, was on Sunday caught representing Anambra State in the weightlifting event of the ongoing National Sports Festival in Lagos.
The boxer, John Baptis, won a gold medal in the 77kg men’s snatch event but he has since been stripped of the medal. Baptis, who had a body weight of 74.75kg, had the best snatch of 132 ahead of second placed Majinedum Seldum of Kaduna, who had 126 points and Nasarawa’s Rabiu Ibrahim (126), who came third. However, Seldum and Ibrahim were awarded the gold and silver medals respectively.
President, Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, Chimdi Ejiogu, said Baptis had represented Cameroon internationally, adding that Anambra would be punished accordingly.
