It’s been almost a month since my kidnapping incident and so far, Ibadan has been nice to me except for the usual life issues.
Remember I work as a counsellor at a secondary school in the military barracks? Yes.
The past couple of days I have spent chatting with my kids, I have noticed a very bad behaviour among them. The boys are troublesome and aggressive while the girls are manner less and unladylike.
I have spoken of this behaviour to a few of them (because I can’t go to all the classes at once) and that doesn’t seem to be helping. Therefore, this morning, after a brief talk with them about it during assembly, I have decided to make it my pet project to teach them how to behave. I can’t teach the boys in all areas but I can with the girls and the only way for me to be able to do this properly, in my opinion, is to become the lady I want them to be (which I am not)
I love these kids and I want what is best for them. As a result, I have decided to shed all my bad habits in and out of school so I can learn to be the epitome of the lady they are expected to be. Also, I need to understand the difficulties they will experience in this process of change I am about to start with them.
I have to start showing up early to school more than I usually do, speak properly with no foul language, no smoking, screaming, drinking or dressing indecently. I have to learn to be a lady to teach my girls how to be a lady.
I don’t know if this would work but I sincerely hope it does because I cannot have my girls behaving like uncouth creatures. It is my duty as their counsellor to ensure that.
Wish me luck.
