The former governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Raji Fashola spent two tenures widely revered as the most efficient governor. However, just a few months after vacating office, a document purportedly showing awards of contracts under his administration has sparked considerable outrage.
Already, civil society groups as well as ordinary citizens are calling for a probe of Babatunde Fashola. A data gathering company, BudgIT, quoted a budget report on the website of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency showing that the Lagos State Government had paid a contractor N78.3 million for the development of Fashola’s private website.
The contract was allegedly awarded in 2014 to “Info Access Plus Limited”. Info Access Plus Plus Limited have denied receiving a contract of the said amount through their recently created twitter account.
The document also quotes the Lagos state government as spending N330 million on the Deputy Governor’s residence. It remains to be seen if the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will investigate the former Lagos state governor as he’s seen as one of the leading party’s “untouchables”
