Amid racial charges in America, the Confederate flag has been taken down in South Carolina Capitol ground. The confederate flag is a symbol of opposition to civil rights and it was put up in 1961.
Following the racially motivated killing of 8 people in a black church in Charleston, renewed calls came for the flag to be put down. After charged debates, Governor Nikki Haley finally signed a bill to take the flag down.
Dylan Roof, the suspect arrested for shooting black Americans in a church last month, was pictured behind a confederate plan and the racial slant of his actions threw the issue of the flag into question again.
Critics say that the flag is a symbol of slavery and now the flag is no longer on public display at the Capitol grounds.
