March is the month for fans of Nigerian comedy to head down to Comedy Central’s (DStv Premium channel 122) monthly stand-up comedy showcase, Comedy Central; Live at Parker’s.

The second Jo’burg show of the new season will combine established and rising stand-ups from the Nigerian scene, with Basketmouth at the helm, Buchi and Bovi as support, while hot Nigerian turntablist DJ Master Scratcher will make sure the fun keeps on going all night through.

 

Basketmouth, is the leading light of the Nigerian comedy scene, making waves around the globe with his free-flowing storytelling and enthusiastic comedic performances.  Basketmouth’s profile has never been higher, with huge demand for his comedy gigs both at home and internationally.

Bovi Ugboma is a well-known actor, writer, comedian, MC, poet and producer from Benin city in Nigeria. After studying theatre arts at Delta State University, Bovi served as a news reporter for Nigerian national TV station NTA, before working as a personal assistant to Nigerian actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo.  In 2007, Bovi himself became a household name in Nigeria thanks to his hit TV sitcom Extended Family – starring, written and produced by Bovi himself.  His stand up career kicked off professionally in 2008, and Bovi has since grown to become one of the leading lights in the industry, featuring in all the major comedy concerts in Nigeria and a host of others overseas.

 

Onyebuchi Ojieh, known by his stage name Buchi, is a Nigerian comedian, composer, writer, and actor from Delta State, Nigeria. Although he had dabbled in comedy for years, Buchi’s big comedy break came in 2008, when he made an appeared on the Tee-A Live N Naked Show in Lagos. This led to a meeting with Opa Williams, who gaveBuchi a spot on his Nite of A thousand Laughs, and the rest was history…

 

Commented Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Central, Africa, “It’s a real delight to welcome back Basketmouth and other shining lights of the vibrant Nigerian stand-up scene to our monthly Parker’s fixture.”

 

The evening will also feature the latest leg of the Comedy Central Open Mic Competition, with 3 up-and-coming comics selected to perform front of the live audience, and potentially earn the chance to make it to the finals onThursday 24 September.

 

Comedy Central Presents Basketmouth Live at Parker’s kicks off at Parker’s Comedy & Jive, Montecasino, Johannesburg, at 8:00PM on Thursday March 26, 2015.  Highlights from the show will premiere on TV on Comedy Central on Monday 25 May at 09:10 PM.
