The name Chris Kyle might not ring a lot of bells but the movie “American Sniper” is sure to do so. U.S Navy Seal, Chris Kyle, whose memoir the critically acclaimed film “American Sniper” was based on was shot and killed alongside his friend in February by Eddie Routh.
Chris Kyle is credited with the most number of kills by a U.S sniper and before his death was helping ex servicemen learn how to deal with post traumatic stress.
Today, Eddie Ray Routh, a former U.S Marine, was found guilty of killing Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield at a gun range. Eddie Ray Routh was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Eddie Ray Routh’s lawyers based his defense on the insanity plea and claimed that the defendant was psychotic.
However, the jury did not agree as they deliberated for two hours before reaching the verdict to commit him to prison for the rest of his natural life without the possibility of parole. The prosecution did not ask for the death sentence.
