Today marked a rare incidence of victory and what is sure to be morale boosting for a government which has come under intense criticism over its handling of the insurgency in Nigeria’s North East.
The Nigerian Army today recaptured 11 communities in North Eastern Nigeria while reportedly killing 300 insurgents. A tank belonging to the militant group was also recovered.
The Director of Defense Information, Maj. General Chris Olukolade confirmed this in a statement yesterday; “Mopping up operation of some of the communities where terrorists have been cleared in the course of ongoing air and land operations against terrorists has indicated massive casualty inflicted on them within the last two days of the counter terrorists operations. Over 300 terrorists were killed while a few were also captured.”
The news of the recapture of territory comes in a week where the fundamentalist group have staged attacks in Yobe, Gombe, Borno and Bauchi.
