If I don’t state that this new Yemi Alade effort leaves an impression on the mind, then it’d be me trying to minimize her on the record, which isn’t ideal a thing to do.
She enlists Fliptyce for production and Fiokee for the guitar; which doesn’t do badly for her staying on top of her game. While ‘KISSING’ hasn’t exactly told any story new, it has given us something of a thrill to listen to, and who knows, it might even bring forth same level of glee as ‘Johnny’ in the end. It has all the potentials, so who knows?
Cool lyrics, interesting production and a generally acceptable song by all standards, ‘KISSING’ – a love song – is Highlife-modified with a splash of mid tempo rhythm, something the dance floors can use. Again, it presents us interesting revelations about her unending vocals. It’s an absolute delight. Yemi captures the listeners with her Pidgin-Igbo-English interlaced rendition, something that cuts across finely, and we love it.
She isn’t doing badly with her set of singles so far as she looks all set to serve an album soon, which is fine. Even though with an album, there are possibilities of a slip in which she fails to replicate same level of lustre and lyrical strength as she currently has. ‘KISSING’ is a good effort, very unlike her other single ‘Tangerine’ which didn’t resonate much, coupled with a video that lacked imagination, class or anything close to creative thinking.
It is amazing how things have panned out in recent times, with the trio of Yemi, Seyi Shay and Chidinma looking to usurp the older Waje-Omawunmi-Tiwa rulership. Competiton is healthy for the business and it’d be a thrill seeing things take shape in the coming years. In all, ‘KISSING’ is good music; tell us how you rate it on a scale of 1 to 10.
