Slum2School Africa, a volunteer driven Non-governmental organization based in Nigeria, invites all residents of Lagos to be a part of its annual ChristmasInABOX Tour. This December hundreds of volunteers will go on a tour of 5 communities within Lagos and environs for 3 days starting 19th December and running through till 21st December. Day one will hold in Emina and Saga Islands in Epe Local Govt , on Day 2 the team of volunteers will proceed to Bariga and Ajegunle and finally to Makoko community where the final and biggest Christmas party will hold on Day 3. The Slum2School team hopes to give out a minimum of 1000 boxes fully packed with gifts for children over the course of the 3 days.
According to Otto Orondaam, founder Slum2School Africa, “Slum2School has successfully supported and enrolled over 600 children into schools and we want to extend the Christmas love to similar children living in more slums”. The goal of ChristmasInABox campaign this year is to give everyone an opportunity to give back and also bring 1000 boxes filled with simple lovable items to less privileged children who may never have the chance to get them. Some gift items include toys, stationeries, beverages, wristwatches, sunglasses, storybooks, clothes, shoes, candies, cookies, teddies, bags, etc.
You can get involved

1. Look out for any empty box, shoe box, carton or any type of box within your reach.
2. Put a minimum of 5 gifts that can make a child’s Christmas memorable. They do not have to be super expensive.
3. Use beautiful/Colorful wrapping sheets and seal it with a nice ribbon.
4. Write the content OR age range and sex of the child whose gift you boxed.
5. Drop off your boxes at any Slum2School ChristmasInABOX drop off locations listed below or call the Slum2School team on 0700SLUM2SCHOOL for pick-Up or you could come along with it on the final day at Makoko.
6. Inform 5 of your friends and share the opportunity with others who would love to show love to these children

Slum2School Africa was born out of a desire to see every African child educated notwithstanding background or seemingly unavailable resources and it gives every young person an opportunity to not just complain about problems but be part of the solution and improve the face of Africa. Established in 2012 in Lagos, Nigeria, Slum2School has successfully enrolled over 600 children from different slums who have never had any form of formal education into schools. They have also embarked on several developmental projects including renovating a dilapidated school and many other community service programs. Since inception in 2012 the impact of this organization has attracted over 13 major Awards including the Lagos state Honors Award in 2012, Nigerian CSR Awards, Nigerian Leadership Awards 2013 by the Nigerian Leadership Initiative, the Future Awards for innovation in education presented to the founder Otto Orondaam. Slum2School Africa also won the 2012 sustainable solutions showcase at the African CEO’s Roundtable and Otto was recently awarded a one year scholarship by the African Social Space to study Social Entrepreneurship/ Social Sector Management at the School of African and Oriental Studies, University of London.
Sum2School is fully dedicated to its vision of transforming society by empowering disadvantaged children to realize their full potential by providing access to basic education for these children and in the coming year plans to begin the building of schools in remote communities and slums.
