As fashion and style keeps gearing towards a whole new level, fashion designers all across the world are trending along with what next it has to offer. Year in year out, walk way upon walk way, uniquely distinctive apparels are beautifully being showcased for the world to savour and one of such is the recently showcased collection at the just concluded GTB Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2013 tagged “Bag Lady” by fast rising Afrocentric fashion designer, Ayo Van Elmar.
Inspired by the city of Florence in Italy, where leather seems to be a vast resource, “Bag Lady” is a very unique collection. Her structures are solid and defined, making it quite uneasy to have any toile or drapes in the collection. Bag lady is different and very creative, as items that were once bags are deconstructed and reconstructed to become wearable fashion outfits.
“Bag lady” is eco friendly, intelligent and innovative. Here’s where you get to wear your own lovely bags rather than just carrying them!
Storyline
Being a product of this millennium has been a lifetime of hell. My name is Bag, some women call me Handbag. I was born in a far faraway land of Asia, and I have come from far faraway to the loud and wild markets of Lagos. I have been transformed from what I used to be to become what I am today.
Women seem to have a problem with getting rid of me even when I am sore, weary, tired and broken. They just keep me hanging in there, day by day, year after year. Now I have ended up with a master who puts me through several rounds of surgery, and has turned me into a wearable item. Thus, I am no longer called Bag.
