Nollywood actor and television presenter, Gideon Okeke, has taken to social media to express his concern over the plight of men who go through a series of hardships after a failed marriage, especially when children are involved.
In a recent Instagram story, the actor disclosed that his separation/divorce announcement made him realize that many men are enduring a litany of ills as a result of their failed marriages, leaving their children as victims. He revealed that his DM is filled with messages that point to this fact.
He further expressed his concern over the lack of therapy or advice for men who find themselves in such a situation. He questioned if speaking up is considered shameful and if the advice of going back to work is enough to douse the pain.
According to him, kids are the most affected in such situations as they become the ‘mumu button’ to the man who has not abandoned his responsibilities towards them. Okeke passionately urged men to be humane and do what is right for their children, even if it means making sacrifices.
In his message to single mothers, Okeke urged them to be considerate and remember that their children are a gift from God. He noted that it takes two people in love to have the privilege of the legacy of kids in their lives, and no one should use this same gift to punish another man. He pleaded with them to get out of the way and allow their kids to have emotional balance.
In conclusion, Okeke called for empathy and humane treatment towards men who find themselves in such situations and encouraged everyone to be considerate of the emotional well-being of children involved in divorce or separation cases.
