Simon Ekpa, who claims to be a disciple of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has written a letter to the United Nations General Assembly dated April 13, 2023, which he personally signed.

In the letter, Ekpa urged the global community to recognize the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), which he stated was established to govern the “Biafra nation” politically and administratively from outside of Biafra territory.

Ekpa, who refers to himself as the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, appealed to the UN to intervene with the government of Nigeria for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu and all Biafrans held captive in Nigeria. He also called for a peaceful referendum to be conducted to enable the peaceful and bloodless exit of Biafra from Nigeria.

According to the letter obtained by SaharaReporters on Thursday, Ekpa explained that the indigenous people of Biafra set up the exile government as part of their determination to secede from Nigeria, citing various reasons for IPOB’s desire for the South-East region to exit from Nigeria.

The Biafra Government in Exile, as stated in the letter to the United Nations General Assembly, will be responsible for diplomatic and foreign relationships, arrangements, agreements, negotiations, and pacts with other nations and interest organizations on behalf of the Biafra people. Ekpa emphasized that the government in exile should be accorded diplomatic privileges as due to any government official.

Furthermore, Ekpa listed the officials of the Biafra Government in Exile, including the Head of Finance, Deputy Head of Finance, Defense Minister, Home Land Liaison, Diplomatic & Foreign Affairs, Coastal Region Orientation Coordinator, Group Secretary, Department of Planning & Strategy, Information/Media & Communication, Secretary to World Igbo Union, Military, Ministry of Health, Education, Oil & Gas, Pharmacy & Laboratory Science, and Transport & Logistics, along with their respective names and positions.
