According to Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos requires more than N21 billion for its renovation.
He revealed that only N500 million has been raised from government and private sources so far.
In a series of tweets, the minister provided updates on the ongoing renovation works at the stadium, which included the installation of new water drainage systems and the completion of the second phase of tartan track installation, with lane marking yet to be done.
Despite being built in 1972 and having hosted major sporting events such as the 1973 All African Games and the 1980 African Cup of Nations, the stadium has been neglected for more than 17 years.
