The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has rebuked Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, for inciting people to violence over the outcome of the Presidential elections.
During his official engagements with international media organizations in Washington DC, the minister stated that it was inappropriate for Obi to seek redress in court over the election results and, at the same time, encourage people to engage in violence. The minister pointed out that Obi’s actions amounted to treason and that he was not a true democrat.
The minister engaged with several media organizations, including the Washington Post, Voice of America, Associated Press, and Foreign Policy Magazine, during his visit to the US. He explained that both Obi and Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), failed to meet the constitutional requirements to be declared as president. According to the minister, only the President-elect, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), met the criteria for becoming president.
The minister highlighted that his mission in the US was to counter the negative narratives being promoted by the opposition and naysayers regarding the fairness and transparency of the election. He emphasized that the introduction of the Bimodal Voters Verification System (BVAS) was a game-changer, eliminating ghost and illegal voters, multiple voting, and restoring sanity to the elections.
Relying on the INEC report, the minister said that BVAS worked 97% during the polls, which gave unparalleled credibility to the elections.
