INEC seeks appeal over temporary voter cards judgement

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has requested the Court of Appeal in Abuja to overturn the Federal High Court’s ruling ordering INEC to allow voters with Temporary Voter Cards (TVC) to participate in the Governorship and National Assembly elections scheduled for March 18.

INEC filed an application for an injunction against the execution of the March 9 verdict pending the outcome of its appeal.

INEC argued that allowing the use of TVCs would infringe on the powers of the National Assembly, and that a valid PVC is necessary for voter accreditation at polling stations.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court had ordered INEC to allow two registered voters to vote in the elections with their TVCs, stating that the plaintiffs’ information had been properly registered with INEC’s database.
