In an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, Akin Osuntokun, the director-general of the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign council, placed the blame for the “fiasco” of the presidential election squarely on President Muhammadu Buhari.

Osuntokun argued that Buhari, who had repeatedly promised to ensure a free and fair election, failed to deliver on his promise.

According to Osuntokun, Buhari’s statement that he wanted to be remembered as the person who conducted the best election was at odds with the reality of the situation.

Osuntokun affirmed that the LP had won in places where the results had been rigged, and that the party’s margins of victory had been reduced. He cited the example of Lagos, where he alleged that the LP had won by a wider margin than what was reported by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
