The Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has declared that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), was the rightful winner of the February 25 election.

In a statement released by Sola Ebiseni, the group’s secretary, Afenifere accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of manipulating the results in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to credible sources, Afenifere said that the LP candidate won the election, and it supports his decision to challenge the INEC’s contrary declaration.

Afenifere reiterated that for fairness, equity, and peaceful corporate existence, the next President of Nigeria must come from the southern part of the country, particularly the South East.

The group called on residents of Lagos to vote for Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party during the forthcoming governorship polls. Afenifere urged INEC to ensure free and credible Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in accordance with the constitution and the Electoral Act.

Afenifere promised to protect the rights of residents in Yorubaland to vote for candidates of their choice in all elections and warned all threats mongers and violence merchants to desist from their actions.

The group also called on the President and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces and all security agents to guarantee the safety of the people and ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections throughout Nigeria. Finally, Afenifere called on the international community to pay special attention to the ongoing electioneering process in Nigeria in the interest of global peace.
