INEC postpone governorship, state assembly elections to March 18

The governorship and state assembly elections originally scheduled for March 11 have been postponed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) until March 18.

The postponement was due to a logistical crisis arising from BVAS configuration and transportation, according to INEC executives who met on Wednesday evening.

An official familiar with the meeting informed Peoples Gazette that the elections were delayed to allow for an additional week of preparation, and that INEC should be able to complete all necessary arrangements by March 18. At the time of filing this report, the meeting was still ongoing at INEC headquarters in Abuja.

INEC had convinced the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal to alter its order granting Peter Obi of the Labour Party and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar permission to inspect the election materials, as the commission needed to reconfigure the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) for the polls scheduled for March 11.
