Exercise is seen to be any movement that makes your muscles work and requires your body to burn calories.
Some Nigerians often think that because they trek from Marina to Obalende or Onipanu to Yaba for work, it’s a form of exercise.
My brother and sister that is not exercise you are just “suffering and smiling” in Fela’s words.
Yes, you can argue that being active has been shown to have many health benefits, both physically and mentally. You trekking from Onipanu seven days a week is an activity but is it healthy?
We take a quick look at three sets of people and the excuses they give for not having a structure when it comes to exercising.
1. Hashtag 9-5: These group people believe their exercise is on the go, having to deal with traffic, rude bus conductors, annoying bike riders, and the various activities at work. So few people in this group see no reason to add an activity to this life of activities.
Research has shown that exercise improves mood and decreases feelings of depression, anxiety, and stress.
Having time to yourself because of a structured exercise will help renew body, mind, and soul.
A structured exercise produces changes in the parts of the brain that regulate stress and anxiety.
The effects of exercise on mood are so powerful that choosing to exercise even makes a difference over short periods.
So, please create time to exercise.
2. Hashtag Remote workers: Now this category is for my remote workers, tech bros, and tech girls. Inactivity is a major factor in weight gain and obesity. So please listen up, your body spends energy in three ways: digesting food exercising, and maintaining body functions, like your heartbeat and breathing.
While dieting, a reduced calorie intake will lower your metabolic rate, which can temporarily delay weight loss. On the contrary, regular exercise has been shown to increase your metabolic rate, which can burn more calories to help you lose weight.
Five pushups and ten sit-ups every 4 hours would not hurt anybody.
3. Hashtag It is well: These people believe God will take control of everything. Even the holy book says in 1 Timothy 4:8, “keep yourself in training for a Godly life, physical exercise has some value…”So you also have to make a conscious effort to take care of yourself.
Regular exercise has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity, heart health, and body composition. It can also decrease blood pressure and cholesterol levels. This means a well-planned exercise could be the miracle you need in your life.
In summary, you need to have an exercise plan because exercise offers incredible benefits that can improve nearly every aspect of your health.
Regular physical activities like swimming, walking, jogging even dancing can increase the production of hormones that make you feel happier and help you sleep better.
Do this today and thank me later.
