According to a statement made by Prof. Ishaq Akintola, the director of the Muslim Rights Concern, the group will be supporting Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s re-election bid as governor of Lagos State based on his performance in his first term.
Akintola stated that Sanwo-Olu has made significant progress in critical areas, including the construction of the red and blue rail lines, revamping of water transport with high-capacity boats, construction of more than 308 roads, and the effective management of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also noted that Sanwo-Olu’s administration has made education more accessible by offering free primary and secondary education, and low tuition fees for tertiary institutions.
Akintola appealed to Lagosians, regardless of religious affiliation, to vote for Sanwo-Olu in the upcoming governorship election on March 11th, stating that he is the best option for the job. He also urged Muslims in particular to view the election as an opportunity to support a Christian candidate and emphasized that Sanwo-Olu had issued a circular supporting the use of hijab in the state.
