The Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called for the resignation of Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and for the presidential election to be conducted again, alleging that the election was not free or transparent.
In response, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, have filed a suit (marked FHC/KN/CS/43/2023) before the federal high court in Kano to restrain the LP and PDP from interfering with the collation of presidential election results.
The APC, Tinubu, and his running mate are asking the court to prevent the defendants from stopping the announcement of the election result, citing evidence from their situation rooms that Tinubu and Shettima have met the legal requirements to be declared the president and vice president-elect.
The plaintiffs allege that INEC is under pressure from the defendants and other parties, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and they are requesting an injunction to stop the defendants or any other person from preventing INEC from completing the process of the presidential election.
