AAC accuses INEC of illegality, withdraws from collation centre

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is being accused of non-transparency by the African Action Congress (AAC), which has withdrawn its agent from the national collation centre in Abuja.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) are also calling for the cancellation of the general election. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged the INEC chairperson to declare election results void if BVAS and servers have been manipulated or rendered inactive.

AAC has accused INEC of failing to upload result sheets at the unit level, which is a breach of the law. The party refers to the 2022 electoral act, which empowers INEC to prescribe guidelines for the transmission of election results.

INEC regulations state that results must be transmitted electronically via BVAS after announcement at the polling units. However, INEC has allegedly bent the rules, which has raised concerns.

The AAC has withdrawn its collation agent from the national collation centre due to the commission’s failure to address their concerns. The party calls on INEC to follow the law and its own guidelines, and also urges the cancellation of results not uploaded, collated, and read from the server, in accordance with the electoral act and guidelines.

Elections should be reconducted in areas ridden with vote buying, intimidation, violence, technical issues with BVAS, and other malpractices, as stated by parties and independent monitoring bodies.
