Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has dismissed calls for the resignation of his principal, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, by the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Oyekanmi described the calls as baseless and misguided, and singled out PDP agent Senator Dino Melaye for making unsubstantiated and reckless allegations that the INEC Chairman unfairly allocated scores to political parties.

Oyekanmi clarified that the election results from the States indicated a free, fair, and credible process, contrary to the insinuations of the parties. He added that established procedures exist for parties or candidates who were dissatisfied with the election outcome to follow, which did not involve demanding the resignation of the INEC Chairman or the cancellation of the election.

He advised aggrieved parties to present their evidence to the courts to pursue their cases instead of making comments that could provoke violence or unrest. Oyekanmi emphasized that the 2023 general election processes were in their final stages of completion, and it was only fair for parties to allow the conclusion of the process before taking any further actions.
