Court stops INEC from using MC Oluomo for electoral items distribution

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been prohibited from contracting Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, or any member of his group to distribute election materials for the 2023 elections in Lagos State.

This was ordered by the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Friday, which issued a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from engaging MC Oluomo’s group or any person acting under its directions to distribute election materials in Lagos State.

The order was made in response to a suit filed by the Labour Party, its governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and other political parties and candidates.

The applicants had argued that the appointment of MC Oluomo and his group was illegal, null, and void, as it violated Section 26 and 27 of the Electoral Act 2022, and could lead to election sabotage, manipulation, and rigging in favor of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The court had granted an interim order on Monday and issued its judgment on Friday after hearing the substantive case on Wednesday. INEC did not respond to the suit or send a lawyer to represent it in court.

Today we won the substantive case perpetually restraining INEC from working with Mc Oluomo. This is historic for the future of Lagos.
