Some politicians planning to buy votes sharing gifts not cash, says Bawa

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed that it has intelligence indicating that some politicians are planning to buy votes in kind instead of with cash, just three days before the general elections.

EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, made this revelation during an interview on Channels Television’s The 2023 Verdict, in light of the nationwide shortage of new naira notes.

Bawa urged all Nigerians to cooperate with the anti-graft agency in its efforts to fight against vote-buying in the upcoming polls and to vote for people with integrity and ethical standards.

He emphasized that vote-buying is a significant problem that must be stopped at all costs, as it affects Nigeria’s future and its citizens.

Bawa also stated that the biggest hurdle the commission faces is if Nigerians do not support its efforts, adding that the power of the citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is the most influential office in the country, and they must unite to ensure that only people with proven integrity and higher ethical standards are voted into various elective positions.

The only way to determine whether they have genuinely sold themselves in what they will do is when they get into office.
