Respect voters’ choice, Buhari tells presidential candidates to accept outcome
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

On Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari urged candidates of political parties to accept the results of the 2023 general elections to avoid any possible electoral violence and bloodshed.

Nigerians will vote on Saturday, February 25 to select a new President and members of the National Assembly, followed by the Governorship/States House of Assembly polls on March 11.

During the signing of the Second Peace Accord for the 2023 Presidential elections at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, the President reminded the political class and their supporters that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is the agency empowered by law to announce the results.

He called on candidates to respect the choices of the electorates and to abide by the spirit and letter of the Accord they have signed. Any grievances, personal or institutional, should be channelled to the relevant courts.

The President assured Nigerians that his administration will continue to do its utmost to deliver a free and fair election, and that he is committed to allowing the rule of law to take precedence over political expediency.

He thanked the National Peace Committee, led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, for their commitment and sacrifices to support peaceful elections in Nigeria.
