Datti Baba-Ahmed Knocks Buhari, Says El-Rufai Committing Treason
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

During a press conference in Abuja, the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, accused Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai of potentially committing treason with his recent comments regarding the validity of old naira notes.

El-Rufai had contradicted President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement that only old N200 notes will remain valid until April 10, and declared that old N500 and N1000 notes are still legal tender in Kaduna state until the Supreme Court makes a decision.

Senator Baba-Ahmed criticized the governor’s actions and expressed confusion over why President Buhari has not addressed the issue. He also pointed out that the states leading the fight against the naira redesign policy were the same states that contributed the highest number of votes to Buhari’s victory in the 2019 elections.

He further criticized the federal government’s non-compliance with the Supreme Court’s order to allow the continuation of old naira notes and described it as a sign of poor quality leadership.
