Buhari should have listened to the voices of Nigerians – NANS

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) have denounced President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent decision to lift restrictions on the use of old N200 notes only, instead of fully overturning the unpopular naira redesign policy.

In a joint statement, the Ogun State Chairman of NANS and the National President of NAOSS criticized the President for failing to listen to the voices of Nigerians who have been calling for the removal of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

The students’ bodies argued that Emefiele’s anti-people policy has caused significant suffering and hardship for innocent Nigerians, and questioned Buhari’s reluctance to sack him.

The groups went on to suggest that both Emefiele and Buhari may be working against the interests of Nigerians.

Finally, the students’ bodies cautioned that the President’s decision to allow only the old N200 note as legal tender may intensify the already tense situation in the country and provoke further violent protests.
