Famous fashion designer Paco Rabanne passed away at 88.
His death was confirmed in a statement on the Paco Rabanne Instagram account, which honored the visionary designer as one of the most seminal figures in 20th century fashion.
Rabanne, whose real name was Francisco Rabaneda Cuervo, founded his fashion house in 1966 and was known for his innovative use of unconventional materials and production methods, as well as his iconic metallic ensembles and Space Age aesthetic.
He retired from fashion in 1999, and his fashion and fragrance company was acquired by Spanish firm Puig in 1987. Rabanne was awarded France’s highest decoration, the Legion of Honor, in 2010.
The president of Puig remembered Rabanne’s “radical, rebellious spirit” and called him “one of a kind.”
