Abia PDP governorship candidate Prof. Uche Ikonne passes on

Uchenna Ikonne, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia, has passed away due to cardiac arrest at the National Hospital in Abuja.

He was 65. Mr. Ikonne was an ally of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who had won the party’s 2022 gubernatorial ticket.

According to a statement from his son, Mr. Ikonne had been ill for some time and had received treatment in the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria recently.

Tributes have been paid to the late professor, who was also a former vice-chancellor of Abia State University, with many describing him as an academic who dedicated his life to serving humanity through knowledge.

Further details regarding his death and arrangements will be announced by the family.
