In the first Premier League game since the World Cup, England captain Harry Kane scored for Tottenham, which rallied from a 2-0 deficit to draw with Brentford.

After goals from Vitaly Janelt and Ivan Toney, the Bees were on track for their first victory over Spurs since 1948, but Spurs scored twice in the final 25 minutes.

In England’s 2-1 quarterfinal loss to France, Kane scored one penalty and missed two in the 65th minute with an excellent header from a cross by Clement Lenglet.

Six minutes later, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored with a curling finish to make the score 2-2. However, neither team was able to find a winner, with Kane heading a chance over the crossbar.

Janelt’s close-range effort in the 15th minute gave the hosts the lead after goalkeeper Fraser Forster, making his first appearance in the league for Spurs, was only able to block Mathias Jensen’s volley into his path.

After Christian Norgaard had headed in a corner, Toney tapped in his 11th goal of the season for Brentford, but it wasn’t enough to make it two goals to one.

The 26-year-old Toney was playing in his first game since the Football Association accused him of 262 alleged betting violations. He has until 4 January to answer the charges.

Before kickoff at 15:00 GMT, the result places Brentford ninth and Spurs fourth in the table.
