The state govt asks Agboyi, and Ikosi-Ketu residents to obtain permits before construction. Lagos State House of Assembly, yesterday, berated the state Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure, Kabiru Abdullahi, for disrespecting the lawmakers by refusing to honor an invitation of a committee of the House, which has oversight functions over the ministry.
The lawmakers prayed that the House Committee on Waterfront Infrastructure is mandated to carry out a holistic investigation of the ministry since Abdullahi’s appointment and also placed the confirmation of the commissioner’s appointment on hold.
However, the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, saved the commissioner from being sanctioned during plenary.
Obasa, who appealed to the committee and members of the House to reconsider their prayer, urged them to give the commissioner another opportunity to appear before the House. He directed the Clerk of the House, Olalekan Onafeko, to write to the commissioner to appear with all necessary documents on Thursday, September 15, 2022.
In another development, the Lagos Government, through the Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), yesterday, urged residents of Agboyi and Ikosi-Ketu to obtain planning permission before embarking on physical development activities to ensure orderly planning of structures within the state.
General Manager, LASPPPA, Kehinde Osinaike, gave the charge during a stakeholders’ forum organized for members of the Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Councils (CDCs) of the areas in Ketu.
He said that proper physical planning remains a tool for functional communities, hence the need for the people to do the right thing.
Osinaike explained that obtaining necessary permits before any construction work and adhering to the rules and regulations involved in the building would bring about a serene environment that is safe and endearing to work and play.
He, therefore, urged the leadership of the CDAs, CDCs, and residents of Agboyi and Ikosi-Ketu to support the government’s mission of having a sustainable environment by strictly complying with its regulations and equally reporting anyone who found the building without a permit.
Chairman, Magodo Phase I CDA, Tangbaju Benson, thanked the state government for the enlightenment session on the benefits of planning permits and for putting in place a regulatory agency that maintains standardization in construction works across the state.
He advised residents to give the government their full support to enable it to actualize the dreams of delivering a functional and safe environment for the people.
