Brighton & Hove Albion have agreed on a fee with Chelsea for the permanent transfer of Scotland international Billy Gilmour, The Athletic understands.
It is believed the two sides have agreed on a fee in the region of £9 million for the 21-year-old.
The Athletic reported earlier this week that Brighton was keen on a deal for Gilmour — but that the clubs would need to agree on a permanent transfer due to Premier League loan rules.
Brighton has already loaned Levi Colwill from Chelsea this window and Premier League sides cannot loan more than one player from the same club at any one time.
Gilmour joined Chelsea in 2017 and his current contract runs until the end of the 2023-24 season.
Chelsea’s change in ownership triggered an option to extend Gilmour’s deal by one year in June, giving him a substantial pay rise.
Gilmour was handed his senior debut by Frank Lampard in 2019 but a first-team breakthrough was hampered by injury and COVID-19 and after making just five appearances under Thomas Tuchel in 2020-21, he spent last season at Norwich.
