On the 1st of August 2022, News Central Media Limited launched its broadcast services on DSTV channel 422. The channel is currently available to DStv customers in 42 countries in the West, East, Central and Southern parts of Africa. Before its launch on DSTV, News Central was on StarTimes in 2020 and has gained prominence as the continent’s first truly Pan-African news channel known for telling untold stories about Africa and changing the narrative about how Africa is portrayed in foreign media.
The Chief Financial and Operating Officer, Tonye Adonye-Halliday said the station’s slogan “Africa First,” representsthe dreams, aspirations, spirit, colours and humanity of the continent. She said the media platform will drive its vision through exciting and innovative content, news discourse, current affairs programming with in-depth reporting, solutions journalism and hyper-local content that accounts for the different regions of the continent.
News Central TV is aimed primarily at youths aged 18 to 34 and offers over 20 hours of original and inspiring content daily that cuts across Politics, Business, Sports, Entertainment and features. Part of the station’s news strategy is to churn out stories in a simple and conversational way, engage heavily with their audience, and differentiate themselves from the competition by pushing out authentic stories and dishing out fantastic analyses on subject matters.
