The world’s football governing body has set aside $1.696 billion for this year’s FIFA Qatar World Cup
The prize money will take the largest share of the tournament’s allocations, as FIFA has set aside $440M or 26% of its WC budget towards that cause, said Safebetting in a press release received by Hespress EN this Thursday.
This year’s allocation represents a 10% increase in the fund compared to the last edition in 2018, added the press release.
“Playing in the World Cup is every footballer’s ultimate wish,” says Safebettingsites’ Edith Reads.
“The legendary status that comes with playing in the event is enough to fire up the players to want to do well there. FIFA sweetens the deal with monetary incentives, especially for teams that progress beyond the group stages,” she adds, according to the same source.
So how will FIFA share the $440M prize money?
The prize money guarantees each of the 32 participants at least $9 million. That means 16 teams that exit the group stage will share $144 million of the prize fund, explained Safebettingsites in its press release.
Additionally, the 8 teams dropping out in the second round will take home $13M each, totaling $104 million, said the same source.
Four teams will exit at the quarterfinals level, taking $17 million each. The fourth-placed team will earn $25 million as the second runners-up pocket $27 million.
The tournament’s winning team will get $42 million, and the runners-up $30 million. Besides those bonuses, they also get $1.5 million each for their preparation costs, specified the same source.
FIFA’s other allocations at World Cup 2022
Operational expenses will take the second largest chunk of FIFA’s budget in Qatar 2022, accounting for $324 million or 19% of the $1.696 billion outlay, added the press release.
Additionally, FIFA projects over 5 billion people will watch this year’s tournament. Therefore, it has set aside 15% of the funds for its television audience, which is $247 million.
The other segment to take a significant amount of FIFA’s budget is Clubs Benefits Program (CBP). CBP recognized the contribution of football clubs in successfully staging the WC, explained the same source.
As a result, football clubs can tap into $209 million (12%) from the CBP vote head, added the press release.
The upcoming 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup is set to take place for the period between November 21 and December 18.
Morocco is set to face off against Group F countries, alongside Croatia, Belgium, and Canada.
