Looks like the Academy wasn’t so stoked about that “Family Guy” guy after all.
Ellen DeGeneres will return in March to host the 2014 Academy Awards not Seth MacFarlane, whose 2013 appearance was both cheered (by his fanboys) and jeered (chiefly by women who objected to gender-nightmare jokes such as “We Saw Your Boobs”). DeGeneres’ appointment was heralded in a statement that may have been a jab at MacFarlane (or just a really nice statement about Ellen: “There are few stars today who have Ellen’s … great warmth and humanity.”
Even Ellen’s own tweet hinted at a more equality-minded evening on the way: “I’d like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra.”
