Nigerian rapper, Emeka Akumefule better known as Blaqbonez, has taken to microblogging platform Twitter, to disclose that he battled depression.

In a series of tweets, the rapper also disclosed that university made him feel like a failure; however, he expressed gratitude for how far he has come.

He wrote;

“Can’t believe I was almost depressed in University cos them engineering shit was killing me, all I wanted to do was rap.

“University made me feel like a failure, niggas was getting As and future looking bright, I was dropping mixtapes and hoping notjustokay would post it.

“Really grateful for how far I’ve come. I don’t know who would have been taking care of my mum if this music didn’t work.

“When I see niggas reading overnight all the time at Law 201 hall, I’d be asking myself what am I doing with my life like this? I can answer now, I was laying a foundation.

“My serious friends in school are doing well in Their respective fields rn, we all made choices and dedicated our lives to it, and it’s paying off”.

The 25-year-old who is signed to 100 Crowns, an imprint of Chocolate City was profiled by the New York Times as one of the new guards of Nigerian music.
