On Wednesday, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State intimated that he would not travel abroad for medical checkup.
This comes after President Buhari embarked on a medical trip to London, UK on Wednesday, March 31.
In a statement delivered by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, Governor Wike said that the Nigerian health system should be taken into consideration when members of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria paid him a visit, in Port Harcourt. He said that he didn’t want to weigh on people traveling for medical check however he hasn’t traveled for the past two years. He said;
“if we have all these things here, why do we have to travel?
“We have all it takes to provide it. Why will I go out to do my check (overseas) when I have all the facilities in Government House? I don’t need it.”
According to the Governor, all the facilities needed for his medical checkup are available in Port Harcourt and sees no reason to go out of the country for it.
“Why can’t we provide it for our people?” He asked
